Camelid Symposium

The Camelid Symposium is a 2-day winter lecture series sponsored by the UC Davis Camelid Medicine Club, Calpaca, CAL-ILA and other camelid enthusiasts.

The Symposium will be conducted on Saturday January 14th and Sunday the 15th, 2012.  The Symposium is generally designed around three “tracks” or areas of interest. The “Basic” track provides important information for new owners, breeders and the general public. The “Advanced” track covers the more detailed information long-term owners and breeders are interested in. And the “Veterinarian” track offers information useful to veterinarians treating llamas and alpacas in their practices.

The three tracks run concurrently and are open to all Symposium attendees.

The Symposium is the definitive venue to find out about the latest research, trends and issues facing the camelid community.

CAL-ILA is a proud sponsor of this event and we encourage our membership to attend and participate.

2012 is Just Around the Corner!

As we head toward the end of the year your Board of Directors is busy planning for 2012.  Never any rest for the wicked!

We hope you will be as excited as we are about the new year.  Here are some of the highlights;

Dixon May Fair - May 11-13th. We are adding a long planned show in Dixon, California this year.  The May Fair folks have invited us to show our animals during the fair and will provide the arena and stalling areas at no charge!  Should be a great show.  Work is underway to have this sanctioned as an ALSA and ILR show!

Annual Meeting.  We have set aside Saturday March 31st as our Annual Meeting date.  The Camelid Medicine Club students and our speakers should be available on this date.  Your Board is working with several venues (including UCD) to secure the location.  Expect to see some great speakers and actual hands-on demonstrations with llamas.

Llamas and Alpacas at State Fair Thursday July 26 thru Sunday July 29th.  Last year was the first year we awarded State Fair Championships to Alpacas.  In 2012 we are teaming with CALPACA to increase the number of alpacas at the show.  Keep an eye on the website for the latest information.

Ranch Tours, Hikes, Clinics and Parades. The Annual Shearing Clinic will be held at the Adams' ranch in Grass Valley on Saturday April 28th.  Vonnie Sumner will hold a Parade Blanket/Pack Clinic on June 2nd at her ranch.  And we are still looking for volunteers to host ranch tours, lead hikes and participate in clinics and parades.  Just let a Board member know how you want to get involved.

So get on-board and help us plan for 2012.  We need your ideas, comments and help to keep CAL-ILA alive and contributing to the llama community.
