Old Business:
Treasurers Report - Dennie Hansen
- As of June 30, 2007 have $34,319.60 in the bank. Per Joy's suggestion Denny will look into the possibility of putting majority of our funds into a Liquid CD to get a higher interest rate while it is just sitting in the bank.
- $18,000 CD at 5% until September 2007. Dennie will negotiate a new rate at that time.
2008 Cal-Ila Grass Valley Show
- Income from show $14,838 after expenses net $2000.
- Friday night's Renaissance Cocktail Party was an overwhelming success and will hopefully become an annual event. Need to be sure that there are people to assist with obstacles etc, rather than expecting one person to handle it all themselves. In discussion we discovered that some folks were under the impression that if they were performing in performance classes that they could not participate in setup. That has been clarified and should help with volunteers.
- Lora Crawford said that having the Youth classes as scheduled went well however she needed more support with record keeping and supplies.
- Silent Auction made us $699.62.
2007 California State Fair 8/31/07 - 9/3/07
- Insurance bill and Awards for State Fair have been paid
- Entry fees were to be $5 less then charged. MSP to have Cal-ILA pay the ALSA fees for all Cal-ILA members that show up for the show. Denny will cut a check to pay the fees after check-in. This will be added to the website by Suzann.
- No report from Barnie about the Fair and how things are progressing. Greg has contacted the Fair and they have been working with Barnie.
- Lora Crawford has committed to contact him to get information back to the BOD.
- MSP to hand out Bulletin at Registration for Guide Lines and Check List for all participates to be sure they have what is needed to care for their animals properly during the Fair. This will also be posted on the website by Susan Pentry.
- Agreed to have Board Members' stalls scattered around in the pen areas to assist in watching over animals and pen care. We are able to put up “protection” for the animals from the public as long as it does not go into the walkways. i.e. put portable rails up inside the pen rails to make it harder to reach over and touch the llamas etc.
- The ribbons and awards are taken care of
- Board of Directors to meet during show to discuss winners of special awards.
- Need to get all new members on e-mail list as soon as possible. Lora Crawford agreed to contact Vickie to get updated e-mail list.
- Rather than posting our cell numbers at the stalls like we do at ALSA shows we agreed to have “in case of emergency” numbers left up at the pavilion with Barnie.
2007 Second Annual All Youth Show and Barn Sale 9/22/2007
- Judge: Esther Sue Sykes
- Ribbons & awards ordered
- Prices need to be set and information mailed out ASAP. Denny and Joy committed to get this done. Will also let youth in Southern California aware of event to hopefully get their participation.

The Vet's will be identifiable by a special colored name badge.
- Cal-ILA Board to donate tickets to non-Camelid Veterinarians interested in learning more about them.
- Anyone who has a Vet they would like to nominate for this Symposium is to have a letter from that Veterinarian stating he or she is interested in attending.
- What area they cover with their practice
- The Board will go over the letters and will determine how many we can afford to send. If we only get a couple of applicants we could send both but if we get 20 we will have to select a few.
- Each Vet attending the Symposium gets 11 continuation credits, which could help in their decision making process.
- Cal-ILA will give a special surprise gift to each Vet we send to the Symposium
New Business

Website notifications
- We need to get information to our Webmaster in a timely manner for it to be posted on the website for our membership.
- MSP to have a PR or Event Coordinator. It is the responsibility of this person to have contact with the person or persons putting on any event for Cal-ILA and getting all the pertinent facts relayed to the Webmaster expeditiously. Mary Adams & Joy Pedroni volunteered to share this responsibility for the betterment of the organization.
- MSP that anyone wanting to put on a function for the Cal-ILA membership needs to present the idea to the Cal-ILA board for approval. Then the contact person will be notified of the approval and all the information passed on to the Event Coordinator.
- MSP that all e-mails sent out the membership will not display anyone's e-mail address to prevent our list from being pirated. Our member's e-mail addresses need to be protected. We have an individual that handles our e-mails needing to go out to the membership.
Thank You Letters from Board of Directors
- MSP to have Thank you notes sent to all members that host or superintend an event, class or clinic in support of the Cal-ILA membership. This will be one of the responsibilities of the Secretary.
2008 Cal-ILA Grass Valley Show
- Superintendent: Tom Hansen
- MSP to have same two Judges as 2007
Pam Jensen from Wisconsin
Margaret Henry from Texas
Lora Crawford agreed to be the Youth Judge again - Motion made to have a “Rookie Handler” obstacle class. This would give new members and or old member who are just getting into showing a comfort zone in which to learn without feeling defeated or intimidated by the advanced performers. Board voted to table this for the Grass Valley Show committee
- Motion made to have a Jackpot Performance in which the advanced handlers and their llamas or alpaca can perform in a very difficult coarse and the winners share $$$. Board voted to table this for the Grass Valley Show committee.
- Motion made to have a Walking Fleece and Fiber judging. Agreed to pole membership for interest via the website and e-mails to assist the Grass Valley Show committee.

American River Clean-up next clean-up is scheduled for September 15, 2007
Scholarship for UC Davis Veterinarian student.
- Lee Beringsmith is checking into the legalities of Cal-ILA giving an annual $500 Scholarship to one of the UC Davis veterinarian students that is interested in taking care of Camelid in their practice once they graduate. He spoke with the University and they said they would have to be the ones choosing the student who receives the scholarship and that they would want us to have a lifetime commitment to the UC Davis with a $10,000.00 amount being put up front for the Perpetual Scholarship. The Scholarship has been tabled until Lee can come up with a better way that Cal-ILA can give $500 to a student each year without putting any monies up front.
- MSP to have Lee check into the possibilities of doing this via the Camelid Club on campus.
- MSP to have students in the Camelid Club submit an Essay regarding their future goals and interest in Camelid. The Board of Directors would then review these Essays (without knowing who wrote them since they would just have a number assigned rather than a name) and determine the individual to receive the Cal-ILA Scholarship of $500.
Cal-ILA Board Meetings
- MSP to have our face-to-face meetings scheduled for the 2nd Saturday of a month for each quarter. If a member wants to be put on the Agenda or have something submitted to the board for discussion they can let the board know.
Next Cal-ILA board meeting to be held on November 10, 2007 at Joy Pedroni's home in Vacaville at 10am
