Cal-Ila Board Meeting
May 28, 2006
Held at Nevada County Fairgrounds after Cal-ILA Show, Grass Valley

Meeting called to order 5:17PM

Old Business:

Treasurers Report

  • Gross income $11,000 on Cal-ILA Show
    MSP to allot $50/day for meals for all judges for next years' show

General Membership Meeting:

  • Margaret Ricci did a great job organizing and running the event
    MSP to put fliers out in January for Annual Membership Meeting in Davis to help promote better attendance. Also to remind membership that lunch is not guaranteed if not ordered in advance

American River Great American River Parkway Walk

  • Lee Beringsmith was able to adopt mile 14 for us as volunteers to clean up once a quarter. There is a variety of terrain and will take a couple of hours per clean up session. We have a two-year commitment and they will also be provided signage with our group name posted on that mile, noting that we are volunteer sponsors, working to keep the river walk clean.
  • During the last clean up, Boy Scouts were there and pleased to see llamas. It was a beautiful day and there was no garbage to pick up. Margaret Ricci, Lee & Linda Beringsmith plus four llamas participated. The future dates for this year will be posted on the website as soon as they are known.

Solano County Fair: July 13-15, 2006

  • Johanna Edmunds to be the judge.
  • Combined Halter classes (no wool divisions)
  • Fair prints up programs and show numbers
  • Larry Luporini to set up Bar-BQ Friday night. Bring your own meat and a dish to share

California State Fair: September 1-4, 2006

  • Suzann reports that everything is covered.
  • Judge Mark Smith for Halter & 1 or 2 performance classes
  • Judge Levona Fercho (Canadian) for Walking Fiber, 1 or 2 performance classes & youth showmanship.
  • Entry dead-line extended to July 21, 2006
  • Larry Luporini will be in charge of the Obstacles.
  • Tentatively working on having Costume Class and Youth Showmanship on Friday. PR & Pack on Saturday at same time as Halter classes. Sunday would be Walking Fiber & obstacle
  • MSP that Cal-ILA pays to have names engraved on awards from 2005.

New Business

2007 Grass Valley Cal-ILA Show:

  • Superintendent will again be Tom Hansen
  • MSP to have add Suri Classes and walking fiber
  • Margaret Ricci to be in charge of Stalls and obstacles.
  • Announcer will be Dan Milton
  • Dennie to get Quality Llama Products to be vender again
  • MSP to have Boy Scouts set up & take down.
  • MSP to suggest that ranches sponsor the Boy Scouts participation and thus cut the cost to Cal-ILA
  • MSP to give Less Flynn $100 for helping with computer and use of his program
  • MSP to have “pooh police”. We will have marked areas for “pooh” and police will fine anyone “poohing” outside marked areas. J Suggested giving small fines for loose llamas (unless it is a youth's)
  • MSP that anyone parking a vehicle on the grounds needs to pay camping fees. No staking out at night. All llamas must be in stalls provided by the Nevada Fairgrounds.
  • White Elephant Sale: Bring gently used items for sale. Cal-ILA would get 10% and volunteers would run the sale.
  • Suggestion made to have Youth Raffle and Silent Auction to be run by Sarah Rich and Michelle Katsakian together.
  • MSP to have Gregg's Margarita Night

Lamb Town: July 29th Saturday & Sunday

  • Larry Luporini had been asked to have llamas on display.

Youth Performance Show October 14, 2006 at the Barn Sale held at Don & Helen Ritchey's

  • Larry Luporini do obstacles for Youth Show
  • Margaret Ricci to be judge
  • Entry forms to be on our website for downloading
  • Premiums and ribbons to be given
  • ALSA fees $5 per animal and $5 per show per llama
  • MSP to give $500 for supplies for new obstacles .

MSP to hold Next Board of Directors Meeting to be held at the Solano County Fair Grounds on Saturday, July 15, 2006 after the last event.
