Cal-Ila Board Meeting
April 8, 2006
Held at Wild Oak Llamas Ranch, Grass Valley

Present:
   Lee Beringsmith - Vice President

Meeting called to order 10:55 am

Business:

  • MSP to have Greg Sykes as our 2006 President, Margaret Ricci to be Cal-ILA President and all other positions to remain the same.
  • MSP to have meetings posted on the website. Any member wanting to attend, or have anything discussed with or by the board, have an opportunity to get on the Agenda.
  • Ester Sue Sykes has volunteered to publish a quarterly News Letter. Dennie will check out cost for Non-Profit mailing.

Treasurers Report:

  • General Membership Meeting brought in $2,200 on the auction and raffle. We made $100.00 profit for the halters and leads sold for Quality Llama Products.
  • We still have not heard anything from the New Orleans Relief for Llamas, which we are donating $100. Dennie will continue trying to reach them.
  • Youth Account has $2,400. MSP to give Youth Showmanship books from ALSA to youth registered.
  • MSP to have a Youth Only ALSA show. Dennie to check out the cost of Rancho Motel in Vacaville. Tentative date of July 29th. All board members will co-superintend the event.

General Membership Meeting-Davis:

  • Lee Beringsmith agreed to write an article on the meeting for Suzann to put on the website.

American River Great American River Parkway Walk

  • Easter Sue will demonstrate different ways to shear your llamas. We will also have llamas you can practice with if you do not bring your own.
  • Obstacle course set up to play with
  • Pot luck BBQ
  • Easter Egg Hunt and you must have a Llama in tow. Fun for kids of all ages.

Clipper Party April 15, 2006 9 am at Rick and Mary Adams'.
Wild Oak Llamas 12187 Dogwood Road, Grass Valley

  • Suzann reports that everything is covered.
  • Judge Mark Smith for Halter & 1 or 2 performance classes
  • Judge Levona Fercho (Canadian) for Walking Fiber, 1 or 2 performance classes & youth showmanship.
  • Entry dead-line extended to July 21, 2006
  • Larry Luporini will be in charge of the Obstacles.
  • Tentatively working on having Costume Class and Youth Showmanship on Friday. PR & Pack on Saturday at same time as Halter classes. Sunday would be Walking Fiber & obstacle
  • MSP that Cal-ILA pays to have names engraved on awards from 2005.

Grass Valley

  • Show has been sanctioned as a double show & both judges hired
  • Judy Johnson to help Tom Hansen and will be using Les Flynn's program again.
  • Venders:
    Quality Llama Products has agreed to come down as a vender
    We will contact Pam & John Trauth to see if they could bring their scales and grooming products.
    Will also contact Dave Adkins & Pat Leighton to be venders with their Custom Chutes and Carts
  • Boys Scouts will do setup for $300. Will start on Wednesday & complete on Thursday. Ken DeHart will over see the set up. Self-tear down of stalls again as last year. Rick Adams has agreed to make signs to show where to put the various panels.
  • 4H Club will have Breakfast and Lunch on Saturday and Sunday. Tom will try to get the Coffee Late' lady again this year also.
  • Friday Night BBQ bring your own meat and a dish to share. Larry will be in charge of this one.
  • Saturday Night BBQ: Greg will fry up hamburgers again and there will be margaritas.
  • MSP to order something new and special for Grand and Reserve winners
  • Lora Crawford will be in charge of Youth Program and Judging.
  • MSP - All animals must be stalled in stalls provided by the Grass Valley Fair Grounds to be able to participate in the show.
  • Motels have been secured for the judges.
  • Lynn Beringsmith to assist Judy Johnson with score tallies etc.
  • Coffee Lady will be on site both Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Camping Outings:

  • Suzann to confirm reservations available for Friday, May 19th & Saturday, May 20, 2006 at Spring Lake in Sonoma. Can have up to 15 vehicles. Will also check on Skillman Camp Ground off Hwy 20 for around August 19, 2006

Parades to participate with Llamas:

  • July 4th, 2006 in Nevada City 11am

Solano County Fair July 13-15, 2006.

  • Morning Registration & Vet check on Thursday 7/13.
  • Halter classes on the 14th
  • Performance on the 15th
  • Departure 6pm on the 15th
  • NO parade this year
  • Larry will be in charge of big BBQ Friday night. Everyone bring their own chair, meat and a side dish to share. This is always a fun time for all!

2006 State Fair

  • Suzann is getting things organized for the upcoming event. She has been requesting via e-mail to prospective committee members for assistance and waiting for responses. Task will be assigned to different members to help make this event successful.
  • Stalls: We will try to get a buffer zone between our llamas and the general public. Suggest all exhibitors place something under the mats to absorb urine and help eliminate unpleasant orders. Ice Cream Social-Esther Sue and Greg Sykes have agreed to be in charge of the
  • Ice Cream Social since it was a great hit at the last show
  • Friday Night BBQ Larry Luporini will be in charge of the potluck BBQ held in the RV park area Friday night.
  • Obstacles Larry will also be in charge of setting up the obstacles for the performance classes.
  • Judges: Mark Smith and a judge from Canada
  • Raffle Ok'd if profit goes to our Youth
  • Designated areas only for us to walk our llamas. We are not allowed out by concession area
  • Stall areas MUST be cleaned by 8am each morning if we want the grounds crew to pick up the debris outside the stalls if not done by that time we must carry the waste out to the dumpsters ourselves.
  • No Cal-Ila booth this year at the State Fair but each board member will have brochures and membership forms at their area.
  • MSP to get plastic holders for these items
