Cal-Ila Board Meeting
February 10, 2007
Held at Stonehenge Llama Ranch, Vacaville

Present:
   Greg Sykes - President

Meeting called to order 10:12 AM

New Business

Membership Chairman:

  • Vicki Livingston has volunteered to take over the position of Membership Chairman. She did an informal membership survey for research purposes and had a lot of ideas to help generate membership and increase interest.
  • MSP (motion made, seconded and passed) to change the Membership Directory to June-to-June rather than Jan-to-Jan.
  • MSP that the 2007 membership fees will therefore cover January 2007 through June 2008. This year members will get 18 months rather than just the usual 12 for their membership fee.
  • MSP to review Vicki's report & recommendations with the New Board of Directors

Treasurer's Report:

  • There is approximately $29,000 in checking. (The $10,000 CD was put into the checking account since it draws the same interest)
  • MSP to prepare formal budget for 2007 to be presented at June meeting

General Membership Meeting, UC Davis:

  • Fliers ready to go out to general membership
  • Vet Students will be selling their T-Shirts
  • Caterers to handle food same as last year
  • Danielle Wagoner to auction Stud Service with WAG's Cygnus XI. She has requested to bring Cygnus and two of his offspring if UC Davis agrees
  • Mary to be in charge of Silent Auction, MSP not to do raffle tickets this year
  • Greg will handle Live Auction
  • Lee & Linda Beringsmith found a good insurance coverage for horse trailers and motor homes and agreed to bring information to the meeting for membership
  • Dr. Murray Fowler Award send nominations directory to Lora Crawford. Website to move qualifications to front page of website so it is easily found by membership. Winner to be announced at meeting.

Camelid Symposium January 6-7, 2007 UC Davis:

  • This was an awesome event put on by the Cal-Paca that several of the Cal-Ila Board members attended this year. Cal-Ila has been asked to participate in next year's symposium. This would mean that one Cal-Ila member would need to attend their Symposium committee meetings when they are held at UC Davis in Dixon. MSP to take part in Symposium.
  • Greg to check with Cal-Paca on expense involved etc. Proposal made to give discount to our Cal-Ila members to attend symposium as an added benefit of our membership.
  • MSP to shelf until we know the budget and the expenses involved.

Grass Valley Show:

  • Tom Hansen is Superintendent
  • Show committee meeting went well
  • No walking Fiber class this year due to expense of another judge.
  • Added Suri Division this year and both judges are known to be good Suri judges.
  • Exhibitors able to come in Friday for Saturday classes or Saturday for Sunday classes.
  • Need score keepers to help Judy Johnson
  • Ellen Goldsmith to be Ring Stuart for halter classes
  • Margaret Ricci to prepare obstacle courses
  • Don Ritchey is make new ramps and stairs to meet the ALSA guidelines
  • MSP to have $500 budget for Don Ritchey to do new obstacles
  • Old obstacles to be auctioned off at Grass Valley Show
  • Boy Scouts to do set up again this year with Ken DeHart as overseer.
  • Takedown same as last year.
  • Use signage made by Rick last year to make things move smoothly
  • Pleasure Driving and Driving Obstacles also added this year
  • Don Ricci in charge of camping
  • Dan Milton will be announcer
  • Website will be posted

State Fair:

  • Barney McClung is Superintendent
  • Walking Fiber classes
  • Show committee working on tentative schedules for events:

    Friday
    Barns open at 7am
    Registration starts at 1pm
    Exhibitors meeting 4:30pm
    5PM Open driving and then driving obstacles

    Saturday
    Halter classes begin 8am
    Showmanship at 1pm.
    4pm “Pooh Corners”
    5pm Fun events “lets make a llama deal”
    "Vineyards of the Wine County"

    Sunday
    Walking Fiber 8am(Tie-out tent)
    Costume class 1pm
    Youth judging 4pm

    Monday
    Double ring Obstacle Classes 8am
    Double ring PR classes 10am
    Pack classes 2pm
    Judge llama pack string 4pm
    Awards Ceremony 7pm

Clipper Party:

  • Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Wild Oak Llamas in Grass Valley (Rick and Mary Adams) Asking Ester Sue to be instructor.

Youth Show & Barn Sale: September 22, 2007 at Don & Helen Ritchey's in Dixon.

  • Advertise in llama publications to draw more interest and participation
  • 4H extension
  • Cal-Paca youth
  • MSP to not pay for advertisement of this event but to use free publications. IE press releases etc.

Next Meeting to be held at UC Davis after the General Membership Meeting so the new board members can attend.
