Cal-ILA President Message

October 2006

As our showing season draws to an end for another year CAL-ILA has again put on two successful llama shows. Our Grass Valley show was great fun as usual inspite of the very cold Saturday. Sunday didn't let us down with mild weather and warm sunshine. Dennie and Tom Hansen did a wonderful job on this show with the help of other dedicated CAL-ILA members. State Fair is over now too. Suzann Penry was again our superintendent and put out tireless effort and time in the production of this highly visible event. The public always enjoys our llamas at the State Fair and it is an excellent opportunity to show off what wonderful animals we have. Our final show for the year is our upcoming youth show at the annual Barn Sale in Dixon on October 14th . This is the first year we have done a youth show and of course expect that it too will be a success.

A number of our members turned out for the American River Parkway clean-up day in September. Lee and Linda Beringsmith organize this activity for us and everyone that attended had a good time. It is nice to see our llamas out doing public service and our members having fun. Plan to join this activity held every four months. Watch the web site for the next date. Cal-ILA has an assigned one-mile stretch we are responsible for.

Congratulations to the 20 llamas and 1 alpaca as well as the 24 people that won 2nd place over all in the Nevada City 4th of July parade. There was a nice picture in the Union newspaper of the llamas and their winning ways. Hopefully we will have even more people and animals next 4th of July. Ken and Karen DeHart were the organizers for this activity and did a fantastic job with no hitches. They even hosted an after parade get together at their ranch.

Many up coming events are planned -Pizza walk-Open ranch with vet lecture-New years day walk … Watch your CAL-ILA web page for upcoming dates, www.CAL-ILA.org. Participation is the key to our success. If you have any ideas for a fun thing to do with our llamas, call a board member and we can try to make it happen. This is your organization, help make it successful.
